Fretlight Guitar via USB

fretlight synopsis

Fretlight Guitars are a bit expensive at nearly $600 USD, but for technology junkies who want to learn to play guitar these gadgets are a dream come true. The Fretlight Guitars use software and a patented lighting system to show a player where to put their fingers, “teaching” them the song as they play. Now Mac users can get in on the fun with the new software release that allows the Fretlight to talk to Macs

Guitar purists consider these guitars to be cheating, thinking people should learn to play the old fashioned way. In spite of the low opinion by purists, these guitars have been a godsend for the housebound, the shy or the extremely busy who just want to do something fun with music. Aimed at the same type of audience as Guitar Hero and Rock Band games, the guitar is considered the world’s first teaching guitar.

All Fretlights ship with Windows software and connect to a PC with a regular USB cord. This has left Mac users out in the cold. Now the creative Mac types can get in on the fun with Optek Music’s release of the new Mac compatible software (Optek Music makes the Fretlight line).

the Mac version of the software is called M-Player for the Mac and works with any Fretlight 400 Series guitar. Unlike the Windows version that ships with the guitar, Mac users will have to pay $40 for the privilege of playing, in addition to the cost of downloading any new songs not included with their starter pack.
